Gary Brink has entered a 237th DMZ Dustoff coin in a Geocaching race.

For those of you not familiar with Geocaching and the Geocoin, here are the details:

What is Geocaching?

Geocaching is an entertaining adventure game for gps users. Participating in a cache hunt is a good way to take advantage of the wonderful features and capability of a gps unit. The basic idea is to have individuals and organizations set up caches all over the world and share the locations of these caches on the internet. GPS users can then use the location coordinates to find the caches. Once found, a cache may provide the visitor with a wide variety of rewards. All the visitor is asked to do is if they get something they should try to leave something for the cache.

What is a Geocoin?
A geocoin is a special coin created by individuals or groups of geocachers as a kind of signature item or calling card. Each geocoin is assigned a unique tracking ID which allows them to travel from geocache to geocache or to be passed amongst friends, picking up stories along the way.

How do Geocoins work?
Because each geocoin is assigned a unique tracking number its progress can be tracked online through logs which the finder posts. There are different types of logs which can be made on a geocoin's personal home page, whether for virtually picking up or dropping off the coin, or simply for "discovering" the coin. You’ll have the opportunity to share your thoughts on the geocoin page and to upload any photos associated with it. In addition, by logging a geocoin your online collection will reflect that you found that particular coin.

What is the Premier Geocoin Race III?
The Premier Geocoin Race is a 1 year period beginning May 10, 2008 and ending 1 year later. Geocoin's are entered from all over the world. The start point is at Oxford Lake in Anniston, GA. Winners are measured on total mile's traveled in year and total number cache's it visits over the year.

DMZ Dustoff Geocoin, honoring all who have served DMZ Dustoff, has been entered in this race. In it's travels, I really hope it may land near some you. To check on standings, just hit http://www.premiergeocoinrace.net/PGRIIImileage.htm I will be posting where it is in it's travels. If you would like to see it and move it to another cache, you can go to http://www.geocaching.com for instructions if you are not familiar with geocaching. If you do this, please take a digital picture of you holding the DMZ Dustoff Geocoin and I will post it on the site. If you just want of see the coin, go to http://www.geocaching.com/track/details.aspx?id=1548867 I hope you all can have a little fun with this, as I did this for all of you and what the 237th has meant to all of us.

Gary
